More about this tool

How it works

Replay your own match events with named teams, score corrections, lead changes, tied scores and an explicit match duration.

  • Stable chronological ordering preserves input order at equal times. Home/away points accumulate, note events do not change the score, and corrections that produce a negative total are rejected.
  • Lead changes compare successive non-tied leaders; ties count transitions from an unequal to an equal score. These describe the supplied event log, not a verified live feed.

How to use the Game Event Replay

Turn your own list of goals, points and notes into a running score with lead changes, ties and a step-by-step replay.

What it is for

After a youth match, a pub-league game or a club tournament you often have a scribbled list: who scored, at which minute, maybe a disallowed goal. This tool turns that list into a clean running score. You see when each team led, how often the lead changed, how often the game was level, and you can step through the match event by event.

It works with any sport that counts points for two sides: football goals, basketball baskets of 1 to 3 points, handball, hockey. You type the events yourself or import a CSV. The tool does not fetch live scores and does not check whether your log is complete; the replay describes exactly the events you entered.

Worked example

A 90-minute football match, Home team Rovers, Away team United, Match duration 90. Five events, all worth 1 point:

Worked example
MinuteSecondTeamNote
120AwayHeader
3430HomePenalty
510HomeVolley
7815AwayFree kick
8840AwayCounter

The result: "Final score Rovers 2–3 United." The four summary figures are 2 lead changes, 2 transitions to a tied score, 1 largest home lead and 1 largest away lead. United led first, Rovers turned it round with the penalty and the volley, then United equalised at 78:15 and won it at 88:40. The first lead change is the volley at 51:00 (away lead to home lead), the second is the counter at 88:40.

Corrections work with negative points. In a second run, United scored at 12:00, the goal was taken back at 20:00 with Points set to -1 and the note "Disallowed (VAR)", and a Note event marked half time at 40:00. Final score: 0–0, with 0 lead changes, 1 tie and a largest away lead of 1.

How to read the result

  • Lead changes counts moments when the leading team switches. Going from a lead to a draw and back to the same team leading is not a lead change.
  • Transitions to a tied score counts how often an unequal score became level. The 0–0 at kick-off is not counted.
  • Largest home lead and Largest away lead are the biggest goal or point margins each side ever had.
  • The scoreboard and player below the figures replay the match. Use Play, Previous event and Next event, or speed it up to 10×, 30× or 60×.
  • Detailed data and CSV exports lists every event with the running home and away score and the leader after it.

Tips and common mistakes

  • Set Match duration to the real length. With 0 the timeline ends at the last event, so a goal in the 88th minute looks like the final whistle.
  • Events at the same minute and second keep the order you typed them, so enter simultaneous entries in the order they happened.
  • Use Note event for half time, injuries or substitutions; notes appear in the replay without changing the score.
  • A correction that would push a team below zero is rejected, which often reveals a typo in the team column.
  • For basketball, enter 2 or 3 points per row instead of splitting a basket into several rows.

FAQ

Does the tool get scores from a league or live feed?

No. It only replays the events you enter or import. It is a record of your log, not a verified result.

How do I record a disallowed goal?

Add a row for the same team with negative points, for example -1, at the minute it was cancelled. The running score drops at that moment.

Can I use it for sports with more than two teams?

No. The model has a home side and an away side, plus note events that do not score.

What can I export?

The result JSON, a vector SVG of the score chart, a CSV of the event table and a print or PDF view.
